Lansing Mayor Andy Schor is beginning the process of tackling the capitol city’s rising employee legacy costs.  He met with civic leaders Tuesday to discuss ways to address Lansing’s escalating pension and retiree health care costs.

“This is not a one year budget item,” said Schor.  “This isn’t something we’re going to solve $700 million in the budget next year.  We don’t have $700 million in the budget next year.  We have about $130 million.”

Schor will deliver his first city budget later this month. However, he doesn’t expect to receive recommendations on fixing Lansing’s long-term liability costs until this summer.
