The Motown Museum is celebrating its founder with music, food and half-off admission.
Founder's Day is set for Wednesday at the Detroit museum , located in the former home of the label's offices and studio. It coincides with the birthday of the late Esther Gordy Edwards, sister of Motown Records Corp. Founder Berry Gordy.
Musical performers include Motown session player Dennis Coffey, Detroit native Kern Brantley and Dennis Bowles, son of the late Motown saxophonist Thomas "Beans" Bowles.
Edwards founded the museum in 1985. Her granddaughter, museum CEO Robin Terry, praised Edwards' "steadfast dedication to preserving the legendary history of Motown."
Edwards, who died in 2011, also served as the record company's senior vice president and corporate secretary.
