MSU Football Captains; Chris Frey; Brian Allen; Mark Dantonio; Gerald Holmes; Jeremy Miller; Pewamo-Westphalia; James Edwards III; The Athletic and Sports Journalism.

Whenever the MSU football team picks captains, there's some drama involved, and this year was no exception. "Current Sports with Al Martin" makes sure to keep you up-to-date with the breaking news leading up to today's show. While seniors Chris Frey and Brian Allen will be captains, senior Gerald Holmes will not be. Al asked coach Mark Dantonio earlier today why he picked the players he did, and Dantonio explains what went into the decision-making process. MSU will also field a new strategy for sending players to the pregame coin toss, and all of that is flushed out here. Engineer Isaac Constans summarizes what made Allen and Frey qualified captains. After getting to the sound from Dantonio, Frey and Allen, Current Sports straps up for tonight's opening high school football games. Al continues the week's theme of high school head coaches with Jeremy Miller, of the Pewamo-Westphalia Pirates. Miller describes the elation of winning last year's title, but why it will take a mindset change to repeat. Then, Al and Isaac wrap up the show with a discussion about the future of journalism with James L. Edwards III, Lansing State Journal reporter who will be moving to the recently started The Athletic. James will be the new Detroit Pistons beat writer for the Detroit start-up and will be a regular on Current Sports come basketball season.
