President-elect Donald Trump nominated Michigan billionaire Betsy DeVos to serve as Secretary of Education. We talk with Rebecca Jacobsen of MSU’s Education Policy Center and Gary Naeyaert of the Great Lakes Education Project about what public education might look like if DeVos is confirmed.

When President-elect Donald Trump nominated Betsy DeVos for Secretary of Education, it sparked an array of different reactions. Some applaud the nomination And praise her for her years of philanthropy, activism, and hard work fighting for parents and children in Michigan to have school choice. Many prominent figures in the field say her approach to education is flawed and could do real damage if enacted at a national level.

Current State talks about the DeVos nomination with Gary Naeyaert, executive director of the Great Lakes Education Project (GLEP) a non-profit aimed at greater school choice where Betsy DeVos serves on the board, and Rebecca Jacobsen, co-director of MSU’s Education Policy Center and associate professor of education at MSU.
