Detroit string students dazzle First Lady

The Detroit-based Sphinx Organization, which teaches underprivileged youths, recently sent four students to perform at the White House for Michelle Obama. We speak to their director about that performance opportunity of a lifetime.

The Sphinx Organization, based out of Detroit, aims to bring string instruments and music programs to underprivileged students of color in the urban areas of Detroit and Flint. A couple of weeks ago, the President and Artistic Director of Sphinx, Afa Dworkin went with a few of their students to a special performance in Washington D.C., where they played for Michelle Obama in the White House.
