Today in our Neighbors in Action segment, where we feature people and organizations working to make our community a better place, we feature the Michigan Minority Health Coalition. It’s a statewide organization that works to improve the health of Michigan’s ethnic and racial minority populations.

Dr. Othelia Washington Pryor is executive director of the Coalition. The organization started discussions in 2005 and they decided that they would want to center on health and health policy issues. Dr. Pryor explains that their mission is to work to inform minority groups of health policies and make sure that health equity is achieved for everyone.

Initially against the Affordable Heath Care Act, Pryor says that the Michigan Minority Health Coalition now promotes the Act with outreach and education seminars.

We could always use more nominations and we know there are people and organizations out there that are doing excellent work, but we just don’t know about them. Please help us out and tweet us suggestions at @KARCurrentState or send us an email to Currentstate@wkar.org. Put “Neighbors in Action” in the subject line and tell us why you think they should be featured for the great work they do.
