Concerns over terrorism means the Mackinac Bridge Authority will not have vehicle traffic during its annual Labor Day walk.
The Mackinac Bridge Authority has voted to close the bridge to most vehicle traffic during the annual Labor Day walk.
The decision is due to concerns over a possible terrorist attack.
The governor traditionally leads the five-mile walk that typically attracts 40 thousand visitors or more. State and federal homeland security officials say they recommended the action because of terrorist actions across the world against large open-air gatherings.
The bridge will be closed from 6:30 AM til noon on Labor Day.
Busses to ferry walkers back to the starting point will be allowed on the bridge. So will emergency vehicles.
