Border Patrol To Hold Detroit Memorial For Fallen Officers

U.S. Customs and Border Protection

The U.S. Border Patrol's Detroit Sector plans to hold its annual Police Week Memorial Ceremony at its border station in the city.

The scheduled speaker on Monday is Kelly Willis. She's the sister of Brian Terry, a Border Patrol agent who was killed in the line of duty in 2010.

Terry was shot and killed in a remote stretch of desert in Arizona. Guns found at the scene were later traced to a failed gun-trafficking investigation led by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.

It's the sector's 14th year commemorating officers who died serving the nation.

The agency says that in 1962, President John F. Kennedy proclaimed May 15 as National Peace Officers Memorial Day and the calendar week in which it falls as National Police Week.
