John Engler

Yesterday, board chairperson Dianne Byrum informed MSU Interim President Engler that the board would vote to fire him at a special meeting this morning if he did not resign. He did so last night in an 11-page letter, in which he said his last day would be next Wednesday, January 23rd.

This morning, the MSU board voted unanimously to accept Engler’s resignation, which they are accelerating to take effect immediately.

Satish Udpa was chosen as acting president, a job he will hold while an ongoing search for a permanent president is conducted. Udpa has most recently served as Vice President of Administrative Services at MSU. Before that, he was Dean of the College of Engineering.

In a statement, Byrum says the board pledges “to diligently seek a new leader to continue our healing  and guide our campus to achieve our aspirations in integrity, inclusion, research and education.”
