In an effort to help lift Michigan’s emergency orders, some employers in Lansing have started offering incentives for people to receive their COVID-19 vaccine.
Governor Gretchen Whitmer has promised to remove the state’s emergency orders as soon as 70% of Michiganders are vaccinated.
Travis Stoliker, the owner of Saddleback BBQ, wants to help the governor get there.
"The reason we did that, obviously, is because we think it's important for the safety and health of all of our customers, but also their families and our employees, and the employees’ families too," he said.
Stoliker is offering his staff members a $100 dollar bonus if they get their COVID-19 vaccine.
“We have about 30% of our employees that are already fully vaccinated," he said. "We think that that's going to increase because of this incentive. We also did it retroactively.”
He said he will not be requiring his employees or customers to get vaccinated.
In Mid-Michigan, Buddy’s Pizza, Kroger and The Big Boy in St. Johns are some of the other businesses also offering cash incentives for employees who get vaccinated.
