Capital Area District Libraries will resume allowing in-person browsing on June 1st. That’s after COVID-19 restrictions had closed most operations for more than a year.
In a Facebook message, CADL executive director Scott Duimstra says that while patrons will be allowed inside the system’s 13 libraries again, mask requirements will be in effect, with three exceptions. “You’re either fully vaccinated, you’re under the age of 2, or you’re medically unable to tolerate the wearing of a mask," Duimstra explains.
Duimstra says resuming in-person browsing had been considered a couple of weeks ago. “That had to be paused due to the uptick in cases in our area," he concludes, "but as you know, the cases in our area have dramatically started to decrease. Vaccination rates have actually started to increase, and we feel more than comfortable to welcome you back into our spaces on Tuesday, June 1st."
There will be a 50-percent capacity limit, which the larger branches can more easily handle. Those bigger libraries will restrict visits to 45 minutes. At smaller branches, reservations will be suggested, and visits should not exceed 30 minutes.
Families are urged to limit groups to no more than three people.
