One of the first major installations at MSU’s new Broad Art Museum is called The Gift. People posed for portraits that are hung together at the museum.
Officials had hoped that about 500 people would pose, but the total came to 1,300. At any one time, 214 are on display, rotated every Monday. By the end, every one would have been on display for at least a week.
WKAR’s Scott Pohl spoke with curator of contemporary art Alison Gass about The Gift.

Gass says the project is "the ultimate step in making the visitor part of the art work."
On December 16th, the project will conclude with an event where those people will be given one of the portraits to keep. Artist Jochen Gerz will be there, there will be panel discussions, music, and children's events. Those who can't be there won't get a photo to keep, but the remaining portraits will stay in the museum's collection.
