More than a year after beginning the legislative process, the Michigan Senate has passed a pair of comprehensive energy bills.

The measures impact policies at the heart of the state's energy landscape: electric choice, the replacement of soon-to-be retired coal-fired power plants, renewables and other issues.

Democrats and Republicans combined to pass by margins of 26-10 and 26-11.

We talk with State Senator Curtis Hertel, Jr. (D-East Lansing), who voted yes on both bills.
