Current State discusses the history of Asian Americans in Michigan with the editor of a new book on the topic.

Michigan’s Asian American communities have never been as well known as San Francisco’s Chinatown or Koreatown in Los Angeles, but the state is actually home to a diverse group of Asian American communities, each with its own unique story. The book “Asian Americans in Michigan: Voices from the Midwest” aims to capture those stories and take a look at what it means to be Asian American in Michigan.

Current State talks with editor and contributing writer Victor Jew, a lecturer in the Asian American Studies Department at the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
