Former Detroit Free Press writer Susan Ager has written a story about Detroit for National Geographic magazine.

Detroit’s image across the country and around the world is that of a city not only in decline, but perhaps beyond hope. In story after story, all many see of modern-day Detroit are the remains of long-vacant buildings and streets lined with overgrown, burned-out houses. National Geographic has recently presented a different look at the Motor City.

Current State’s Scott Pohl talks with long-time Detroit Free Press writer and columnist Susan Ager. Her piece in the May issue of National Geographic is called "Taking Back Detroit." It's her first National Geographic assignment.

Scott Pohl has maintained an on-call schedule reporting for WKAR following his retirement after 36 years on the air at the station.
