The city of Lansing and a number of public and private organizations are  helping to provide basic services for hundreds of children heading back to school. Current State’s Kevin Lavery stopped by the Lansing Center to talk to some of the people involved.

Public school children all over Michigan are savoring their last week of summer vacation before classes resume next week.  Their parents, of course, are busy getting them ready for the big day.

For many economically distressed families in Lansing, the back to school ritual included long waits in line at the Lansing Center.

The city of Lansing joined forces with a number of public and private organizations for an event called"Kids Connect."  This was an opportunity for children to get health and dental exams, hair cuts, and even vouchers for shoes and clothing.

Current State's Kevin Lavery stopped by to talk to some of the people involved.
