We have another Pop-Up Story today on the theme of “Hungry and Fed.” At our first Pop-Up Story event, Karen Blackman described how the civil rights movement changed her life.
Pop-Up Stories is Current State's live storytelling event where people in the community tell personal stories in front of an audience. The theme of our first Pop-Up Stories event was “Hungry and Fed,” and Karen Blackman told a story from her college years.
Blackman was raised in the Upper Peninsula in the fifties and sixties, and she remembers following the footage from the civil rights movement on TV and being very moved by it. Her story takes place in 1967, after her sophomore year of college.
