English and math are graduation requirements. Soon, CPR may be added to that list for students attending Michigan public schools. We speak to a doctor about how many lives this potential requirement could save.

Over 300,000 people suffer from cardiac arrest outside of a hospital nation wide. According to the American Heart Association, only 8% of them survive. If Gov. Rick Snyder signs the just-passed Senate Bill 647, learning CPR would be a high school graduation requirement.

Current State’s Brooke Allen speaks with Dr. Brad Uren, assistant professor of Emergency Medicine at the University of Michigan, about local stats for cardiac arrest. We also have the story of how CPR impacted the lives of two best friends.
