Police in Shiawassee County took into custody a high school student who threatened violence on Wednesday, causing Perry High School to go into lockdown.
Around 1:30 p.m., the following message was released by Perry School District superintendent Mike Foster:
About 9:10 AM today Perry High School went into "secure mode" locking all exterior doors and interior doors as a precaution. The incident which caused the lock down was a report from a number of students that an individual student was threatening to "shoot up the school" . . . The school administration immediately removed the threatening student from class, searched for weapons, contacted the student's parents, called the Perry Police Department, and had him removed from school. A formal complaint is being forwarded to the Shiawassee County Prosecutor's Office via the Perry PD. Perry Public Schools is treating this situation with extreme seriousness. The safety of students and staff is paramount. At no time were students or staff endangered and no threats were made about other schools. Perry High School is returning to normal operations.
