In a world where there seems to be an app for anything and everything, smartphone technology may now be expanding into the realm of mental health treatment. A team of University of Michigan researchers is developing a smartphone app that would help people living with bipolar disorder.
Melvin McInnis, a professor and researcher at the University of Michigan’s Department of Psychiatry, joins Current State to tell us more about what the app aims to do and what it could mean for the future of bipolar disorder treatment. He says that the app listens to the tone of a persons voice in order to detect if they are experiencing an episode, and that this technology could potentially branch out into other sectors of the health field.
