WKAR and MSU ComArtSci Walk & Talk Book Club

Amanda Pinckney

The Great American Read campaign is in full force this summer and the Michigan State University College of Communication Arts and Sciences is participating!
WKAR and ComArtSci have partnered together to create the Walk & Talk Book Club.

The Walk & Talk Book Club participants are reading  a chapter or two a week from a book on The Great American Read’s 100 best-loved novels list before meeting. The book clubs then meet every Friday, during the lunch hour, at a designated spot on the MSU campus.

Not only is the MSU community benefiting from the time of discussion but also from an hour of simple exercise!

The Great American Read

is an eight-part series, hosted by Meredith Vieira, that explores and celebrates the power of reading, told through the prism of America’s 100 best-loved novels (as chosen in a national survey).  It investigates how and why writers create their fictional worlds, how we as readers are affected by these stories, and what these 100 different books have to say about our diverse nation and our shared human experience.

The series is the centerpiece of an ambitious multi-platform digital, educational and community outreach campaign, designed to get the country reading and passionately talking about books.
