Voters in East Lansing will consider adding an income tax in November.
The city council last night voted to put a measure on the ballot that would institute a one-percent income tax on residents, and one-half percent on people who work in the city but live elsewhere.
Residents would get some relief in the form of a property tax cut. The income tax and the property tax reduction would both have to win voter approval to go into effect.
