Brian Breslin, the chairman of the Michigan State University Board of Trustees, has announced that he will not run for another term on the board this year.

In a statement, Breslin says he decided not to run again in mid-2016. Breslin says he notified the Michigan Republican Party of his plans last October, and that his decision was common knowledge in party circles by November 9th so others would have ample time to mount a campaign.

His statement concludes that "given the challenges created by the events surrounding the Larry Nassar matter, a positive consequence of my early decision is the freedom to focus all my efforts on serving this great university without the distraction of the campaign process.”
