Help centers have been set up in Lansing and Meridian Township to assist people displaced by this week’s floods.
The American Red Cross of Mid-Michigan is providing food, shelter and health services at Letts Community Center at 1220 West Kalamazoo in Lansing. The site has the capacity for 120 people, and the Red Cross has more shelter locations on standby.
In Meridian Township, Central Fire Station at 5000 Okemos Road is serving as a displacement center.
Township fire crews have so far responded to several non-life threatening situations.
“We’ve had several calls where people have called for assistance because they’ve had water in their basements,” says Interim Meridian Fire Chief Lori Schafer. “But no rescues at this point.”
The Grand River in Lansing is expected to fall below flood stage Sunday evening.
Ingham County remains under a flood warning until Monday morning.
