U.S. Secretary of Agriculture Sonny Perdue will kick off a three-state tour Tuesday with a visit to Michigan State University.

Perdue will meet with students and faculty at the MSU College of Agriculture and Natural Resources research lab Tuesday morning.  Later he’ll visit a pork processing plant and a produce business in Coldwater.

Pork is likely to be a hot topic during Perdue’s visit.  On Monday, China imposed a 25% tariff on U.S. pork in response to the Trump administration’s tariffs on aluminum and steel.

Beijing also set a 15% duty on certain fruits, including apples.  That could also hurt Michigan, the nation’s third largest apple producer.

The secretary’s visit to MSU begins at 8:30 a.m.

After his stops in Michigan, Perdue will tour nearly a dozen sites in Ohio and Kentucky.
