Two Republicans hoping to face off against incumbent Debbie Stabenow in November’s US Senate race debated this morning on WKAR’s Off The Record. Katie Cook has more.
Businessmen John James of Grosse Point and Sandy Pensler of Detroit debated their stances on abortion and support of President Trump on Friday, among other issues.
Both candidates said they are pro-life. James took issue with Pensler’s former position of being pro-choice. Pensler compared his views to those of Presidents Reagan and Trump.
“All three of us came from the same evolution of at one time being pro-choice. My son when he was born 20 years ago, it changed a lot of things in my life it changed my whole way of looking at life.”
James, who has been endorsed by political action committee Right to Life of Michigan, continued to doubt Pensler’s stance.
“The thing is what you say and what you do are completely different things. We need to start understanding that this isn’t just a label, these are values that are rooted very, very deeply in who we are.”

Michigan's primary election is Tuesday, August 7. The deadline to register to vote is Monday July 9.
