Small businesses in mid-Michigan may be eligible for financial help as they grapple with lost income during the coronavirus outbreak.

The Lansing Economic Area Partnership, or LEAP, is offering a total of 60 working capital grants of $10,000 each.

The funding is available for businesses with fewer than 50 employees facing expenses such as payroll, mortgages or building maintenance.

LEAP marketing and communications vice-president Victoria Meadows says they’ve so far received more than 500 requests.

“Many of these businesses that we’ve been talking to are saying we can hang on for maybe a month or two…maybe three or four,” Meadows says.  “But the majority of them are really truly hanging on by the skin of their teeth here.”

LEAP is accepting grant applications through Tuesday, March 31.
