As the number of coronavirus infections in Michigan continues to climb, local hospitals are experiencing the effects of what some health officials are calling the third wave of COVID-19 in the state.
Amy Brown is the chief nursing officer at Sparrow Hospital in Lansing. She said the hospital is at 100% capacity.
"So it was very disappointing to watch those numbers climb so quickly," she said.
To help prevent the healthcare system from becoming overwhelmed, Brown is asking the community to prioritize getting vaccinated for COVID-19.
“We need to achieve herd immunity. And until we can do that we really need to continue to make sure that we're following those best practices such as hand washing and wearing your mask and then getting vaccinated," she added.
So far, the hospital hasn’t treated any patients who are fully vaccinated.
Walk-in vaccination appointments are available on a first come first serve basis Monday through Saturday at the former Sears department store in Frandor.
