It’s Wednesday and time for our Neighbors in Action segment, where we feature people and organizations working to make our community a better place. Today we feature two services from the Capital Area United Way: the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program and their  2-1-1 support line.

Teresa Kmetz, president of the Capital Area United Way, says callers to 2-1-1 are connected with a case management specialist who can help them learn about what health and human services are available to them.

Tiffany Lemieux-McKissic is with the Asset Independence Coalition. They provide tax preparation services to people with incomes up to $53,000. She says the coalition's mission is to help families gain greater financial security.

We could always use more nominations and we know there are people and organizations out there that are doing excellent work and we just don’t know about them. Please help us out and tweet us at  @KARCurrentState or send us an email to Currentstate@wkar.org. Put “Neighbors in Action” in the subject line and tell us why you think they should be featured for the great work they do.
