Despite losing her mayoral bid, at-large Lansing City Council member Judi Brown Clarke called the campaign a positive experience.
State Rep. Andy Schor defeated Brown Clarke during Tuesday night's election 72 to 28 percent. Both are Democratic candidates. Both were trying to replace Virg Bernero, who decided not to run for re-election after 12 years.
Brown Clarke watched the results come in from Gregory's Soul Food restaurant in Lansing.
"This is a phenomenal experience we had," said Brown Clarke. "We were grass roots. We were outspent. But you know, I absolutely wouldn't trade it for anything. I enjoyed hearing from the public."
Besides losing the mayor's race, Brown Clarke will no longer be on the Lansing city council.
"And I really love doing the work of the city, so it's looking at the next steps," said Brown Clarke.
Brown Clarke's term on the Lansing City Council expires on December 31.
Brown Clarke remains the diversity director for the National Science Foundation's Bio-Computational Evolution in Action Consortium Center at Michigan State University.
