Lansing mayor-elect Andy Schor will spend three days at Harvard University starting Tuesday as part of the Kennedy School seminar on Transition and Leadership for Newly Elected Mayors.
The Institute of Politics and the U.S. Conference of Mayors offer the program every two years.
Schor said he's looking forward to some of the sessions, including topics where he already has some state-level experience.
"There's one called the quick pivot from the campaign to city hall," said Schor. "There's a section on infrastructure and I'm interested to hear thoughts from other big cities mayors especially with reduced federal dollars. There's also one on pension and healthcare."
Another session will focus on the opioid crisis. Schor served on state-level task forces examining opioids and pensions.
More than 20 new mayors will attend the conference.
Schor is the only mayor-elect from Michigan who will be there.
Harvard pays for the airfare and lodging.
Schor said he'll pay other expenses himself.
