Time is running out for Michigan residents to weigh in on changes to the Healthy Michigan insurance plan. Capital correspondent Cheyna Roth reports the comment period ends Sunday.
This is the last chance Michigan residents have to try and shape the controversial law that requires able bodied people on the plan to work to get benefits. State officials are putting together the application to get a waiver from the federal government.
Lynn Sutfin is with the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services. She said it’s important for participants to give the state their input.
“I do know that it is something we want the people to put their input, we want to know what they need, what they want.” Sutfin said.
The law was passed in June, but there are things it doesn’t specify. The department will use the input when it crafts definitions for terms like “medically frail,” – which is a category of person that is exempt from the work requirement.
