Interim Michigan State University President John Engler has announced a restructuring of health services on campus in the wake of the crimes committed by former MSU doctor Larry Nassar.
President Engler hopes the changes being made to MSU’s health colleges and student wellness programs will result in a system that provides safe and quality care.
The Dean of the MSU College of Human Medicine, Norman Beauchamp Jr., will serve in a new position: associate provost and assistant vice president for health affairs. He says MSU needs the restoration of hope perhaps greater than any other community in the country. "People came to us, young women and their families, and we dissappointed. We failed them," Beauchamp says. "The need to restore hope could not be greater, and we will do that."
Beauchamp will remain Dean of the College of Human Medicine, which with board approval on Friday will be renamed the College of Medicine, a name officials say will better reflect generally used medical school terminology.
Engler has also named Anthony Avellino, CEO of OSF Healthcare Illinois Neurological Institute, as assistant provost for student health, wellness and safety, along with MSU Health Team chief medical officer.
