Today is the first day on the job for Michigan State University’s new president. Samuel Stanley Jr. was unanimously chosen to be MSU’s next president by Trustees on May 28. He comes to MSU from Stony Brook University in New York where he served as president since 2009.
During his first few weeks on campus, his schedule will include introductory meetings with staff, faculty and students.

He’ll also spend time with sexual assault survivors, a priority he mentioned at that May Trustees meeting. “What happened at MSU will not be forgotten," Stanley said at that meeting.
"Instead, it will drive us every day to work together, to build a campus culture of transparency, awareness, sensitivity, respect, and prevention… a safe campus for all. This is going to be key to all of our initiatives.”
In January of 2018, Lou Anna Simon resigned as president in the wake of the Larry Nassar sexual assault case. She was followed by Interim President John Engler and Acting President Satish Udpa.
