Beaches at parks in Ingham County will be open to the public beginning July 4th.

Last week, the County Board of Commissioners approved a resolution to open the beaches at Hawk Island, Lake Lansing South, and Burchfield county parks. The splash pad at Hawk Island will also be open.

Delhi Township is also opening a swimming area at Valhalla Park on Saturday.

Mark Jenks is the township’s parks director. He stresses that there will not be lifeguards on duty at Valhalla or at the other parks in the county. “We will have some additional signage up, just to educate people on the social distancing requirements,” Jenks explains. He adds residents have been enjoying other features of the park during the COVID-19 pandemic. “We’ve had our residents and our patrons show good responsibility and showed good distancing and respect for one another," he continues. "We would hope that that would continue with the opening of this facility. We would just hope that people would adhere to the rules and regulations that are out there right now.”

Motz Park in Clinton County opened its swimming area over the Memorial Day weekend. In Eaton County, swimming at Fox Park opened on June 8th.
