Lt. Gov. Brian Calley is opening a new attack against Bill Schuette in the Republican gubernatorial primary, accusing him of not working much as attorney general.
Calley said Tuesday Schuette's official calendar shows he worked just 104 "full days" out of approximately 1,950 working days since he became attorney general. He says Schuette has been "off duty."
Schuette spokeswoman Andrea Bitely says the criticism is "another political attack," and Schuette has spent days, nights and weekends doing his "24/7" job.
Calley cites roughly 1,000 "lax work days" by Schuette — when there are no items on his public calendar or a "very small number" of meetings.
Calley acknowledges Schuette could have been working when no appointments were scheduled but says Schuette's schedule has "wide amounts of nothing" on many days.
