Firefighters are cautioning you to put safety first when using fireworks in the upcoming few days.
State law says amateur fireworks can only be used from June 29th to July 4th until 11:45 p.m.
Violations can result in a fine and jail time.
It is against the law that fireworks be ignited on public property such as churches, parking lots, or school grounds. It is required that fireworks be ignited on personal property.
Tavis Millerov is Meridian Township's Fire Inspector. He told WKAR News he would rather people not use fireworks and leave it to the professionals.
Millerov said he has heard stories of damaging fires started by Fourth of July amateur fireworks.
To prevent injuries Millerov said you should keep children away from handling the actual fireworks. Also he said you should have a bucket of sand or water to douse the fireworks.
Millerov said fireworks should only be used outdoors. And he said you should read the manufacturers labels carefully before use.
