Michigan State University has named two new faculty athletic representatives.
MSU hospitality professor Bonnie Knutson and environmental policy professor Michael Kaplowitz will represent the faculty in policy matters related to student athletes. They’ll also represent the university to the NCAA and the Big Ten.
Their appointment comes three months after former athletic rep Sue Carter resigned in protest of the MSU’s handling of the sexual abuse scandal that has engulfed the community for months.
The NCAA is currently investigating MSU for its involvement with former sports doctor Larry Nassar. More than 150 girls and young women came forward against Nassar, accusing him of sexual abuse.
Nassar is now serving a 60 year federal sentence for child pornography.
