Martell Armstrong, executive director of the Lansing Housing Commission, has resigned.

The public housing authority in Lansing has come under criticism since a June fire in a townhouse claimed the lives of a mother and her child. In July, the city council approved a vote of no confidence in the members of the commission’s board.

According to a release from Mayor Andy Schor’s office, the commission has two new board members, and Doug Fleming, described by the mayor as “an affordable housing expert,” has been named interim director of the agency.

Armstrong was named to head the housing commission in February of 2017.
