The city of Lansing is launching a fundraising effort to help people who aren’t earning income during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Mayor Andy Schor declared Friday to be Community Support Day in Lansing, but the One Lansing campaign will be ongoing. Schor says the money raised will assist people struggling with housing and other expenses. “Dollars will be provided to the United Way and to the food bank," Schor explains, "to make sure that people get assistance as needed, whether it’s food or any other resources, rental assistance, things like that.”

Donations can be made via the Capital Area United Way’s website, or by texting ONELANSING to 41444.

Schor urges people who donate to use the hashtag #OneLansing on social media to urge others to do the same.
