DETROIT – Utilities are restoring power to thousands of Michigan customers whose electricity was knocked out by storms packing high winds.
DTE Energy Co. spokeswoman Eileen Dixon said Sunday that power had been restored to all but 6,500 of the utility's customers. At the peak, she says about 40,000 homes and businesses served by DTE were without power. That figure is about 10,000 more than DTE estimated Saturday.
A Consumers Energy spokesman said Saturday that about 24,000 of its customers lost service during the storms. The utility didn't immediately return phone calls seeking an update Sunday.
