Notes from Shawn Turner

Periodic posts from Shawn Turner, WKAR general manager
  • On behalf of our staff here at WKAR, I extend congratulations to the MSU student employees and interns graduating this spring. As you look to your future, you can take pride in knowing that you are building on a tradition dating back to the earliest days of WKAR broadcasting.
  • A core element of the vision of WKAR is to be the most trusted and reliable source of educational content that enriches the community we serve. Joining the National Reading Month celebration each March is among the many ways that we can turn that vision to reality.
  • At WKAR, we serve a community of people from all walks of life – rich in culture, creativity and a hunger for content that informs, educates, and inspires. Recognizing the many characteristics and qualities that make our community special is a core value at the heart of the WKAR mission, and something we are proud to celebrate year-round.
  • As we enter each new year here at WKAR, we set aside time to take inventory of our efforts to serve and support the community during previous year. Our goal is simple – we want to understand what we did well and identify opportunities to improve. As this month comes to a close, we’re getting our first comprehensive look at all the rich and engaging content created during 2023.
  • Where does the time go? December 1 marked one year since I officially began in my role as general manager at WKAR. When I think about this past year and the months served as interim GM, I can’t imagine a better introduction to WKAR’s long history of service and to the people we serve today in our community.
