Cox, Snyder spend most in Michigan gov. TV ad war

By AP

LANSING, MI –

Republicans Rick Snyder and Mike Cox are responsible for most of the money spent on campaign ads in the Michigan governor's race so far.

The nonpartisan Michigan Campaign Finance Network reported Friday that five candidates and one nonprofit organization have spent nearly $3.4 million on ads through Sunday.

Snyder has spent $1.5 million since early February, including $161,000 since Memorial Day.

Cox has spent nearly $635,000 in the past month and around $1.2 million overall.

Among other Republicans, Mike Bouchard has spent nearly $100,000 and Pete Hoekstra has spent around $5,500.

Democrat Andy Dillon has spent about $335,000, mostly in the Detroit area.

Democrat Virg Bernero has not yet run TV ads, nor has GOP state Sen. Tom George.
