Cuddyer, Pavano help Twins beat Tigers 6-3

By AP

DETROIT – Michael Cuddyer drove in a pair of runs and Carl Pavano pitched well into the eighth inning, helping the slumping Minnesota Twins beat the Detroit Tigers 6-3 on Sunday.

The Twins had lost four straight and fallen into third place in the AL Central behind Detroit and Chicago. The Tigers lost for only the third time in 20 home games since June 2.

Pavano (10-6) improved to 5-0 in his last seven starts, allowing three runs on six hits in 7 2-3 innings. He walked one and struck out six before turning it over to Jon Rauch, who pitched a scoreless ninth for his 20th save in 24 tries.

Andrew Oliver dropped to 0-3 in four career starts, after giving up four runs on five hits and four walks in 4 2-3 innings.
