Lansing, MI – A group of Michigan State University students staged a protest Friday at the Lansing office of Ingham County Prosecutor Stuart Dunnings III over his decision not to file charges in a sexual assault case on campus.
The accused in the case are two MSU basketball players. The two men reportedly committed the alleged crime in August in Wonders Hall on campus.
MSU Sexual Assault Crisis Intervention Team president Elizabeth Battiste says Dunnings needs to be held accountable for not filing charges in enough rape cases.
"Unfortunately, it took a high profile case like MSU basketball players to bring this attention to, or this issue to the media's attention, but we'll take what we can get, and hopefully, we're sending the message that it's not OK that these cases aren't being looked at and given a fair trial," says Battiste.
Dunnings has said that he remains open to filing charges in the case. He'd earlier said that several prosecutors had examined the police report and did not find sufficient evidence of force and /or coercion.
