EAST LANSING, MI –
The Democratic and Republican candidates for governor had their first and only debate Sunday night, and the mud started flying early.
The debate began with this question from Democratic candidate Virg Bernero
"Helping Chinese businesses compete and win, yet you want to be our governor? Mr. Snyder, how could you?"
Bernero says Snyder's record as a Gateway Computers CEO and as a venture capitalist is one of making money by sending jobs to China.
Snyder's response:
"I mean I've gone through this so many times. At Gateway, I'm proud of my record; I helped create 10,000 jobs."
They did manage to squeeze in a couple answers to questions on issues; disagreeing on abortion, gay marriage and affirmative action, as well as taxes and job creation strategies. They did agree that now is not the right time to raise the gas tax to help pay for Michigan's roads.
