ANN ARBOR, MI –
A student leader at the University of Michigan has filed a professional misconduct complaint against an assistant state attorney general. The complaint says Andrew Shirvell violated professional conduct rules by stalking, harassing, and telling lies about U-of-M's openly gay student body president.

Assistant Attorney General Andrew Shirvell could lose his license to practice law if the Michigan Attorney Grievance Commission finds there was misconduct. The complaint was filed by U-of-M student president Chris Armstrong, according to a statement from his attorney.
The complaint says Shirvell made false and outlandish statements about Armstrong's lifestyle, and harassed, heckled and stalked the 21-year-old college senior.
Shirvell is currently on leave from his job, but is facing a disciplinary hearing under state civil service rules when he returns to work next week. The Washtenaw County prosecutor has declined to file stalking charges against Shirvell. And Shirvell's attorney says he also wants an order lifted that bars him from setting foot on U-of-M's Ann Arbor campus.
