EAST LANSING, MI –
Governor-elect Rick Snyder has put a veteran Lansing lobbyist in charge of his office. Rick Snyder ran as a state government outsider. Snyder says he chose insider Dennis Muchmore because he has an intimate understanding of how Lansing works.
AUDIO:
Governor-elect Rick Snyder says Dennis Muchmore's knowledge of Lansing and the Legislature will bring a critical skill set to his administration.
"What I've always said is it would be a good balance," he says.
For his part, Muchmore promised former clients or lobbyists with his old firm will not have special access to the administration.
"I'm not affiliated with that firm, and I don't expect that to have any bearing on any of the activities that we do," he explains.
Muchmore says the Snyder administration will be very open, and the governor-elect will continue to hold town hall meetings around the state like the ones that were part of his campaign.
Muchmore is also an avid outdoorsman who briefly served as the interim director of a statewide conservation group before returning to retirement and his hobby of fly-fishing.
