LANSING, MI –
Education officials say a new "middle college" program at Lansing Community College should boost the number of area graduates with degrees in science, technology and math.

The collaboration between LCC and the Ingham Intermediate School District will allow students to finish high school graduation requirements and get a state-funded associates degree about a year later. Stan Kogut is the Superintendant of the Ingham Intermediate School District.
"It's gonna be cost-free to their parents," he says. "They can potentially graduate from LCC with an Associates Degree in one of these STEM---Science Technology, Engineering or Math-areas, and then they can either go on to a four year institution, find a job with an associates degree or move into different areas."
The state covers the cost of associates degrees when intermediate school districts establish Middle College programs. The program will enroll students beginning next fall.
