Lansing, MI – Lansing fire officials say around 10:30 a.m., a truck driver dumped about 600 gallons of chemical chlorine into the wrong tank at the Lansing Board of Water and Light treatment plant at Jolly and Wise in Lansing. That spurred a gas release inside the building.
Firefighters are evacuating an area from Benjamin Davis Park south to Newark, Pleasant Grove and Wise Road as a precaution.
A BWL spokesman says the leak does not pose a danger to air and water quality, though hazardous materials teams are on scene to watch for any chemical emissions.
